Patteda Anchu & Banana Fibre Weaving
Patteda Anchu sarees are handwoven from the handloom hub of Gajendragarh, Karnataka. The villages in and around the hub are equipped with hand weaving this exquisite cotton saree. Patte means strip and refers to the border of the fabric, lending this sari its unique name. Patteda Anchu is known for its design and exclusive pattern and can be worn from both sides. Banana fibre weaving involves the traditional art of using natural fibres extracted from banana plants to create various handwoven products. The fibres are obtained from the pseudostems of banana plants, and after a process of extraction and preparation, they are woven into textiles and crafts. Skilled artisans use banana fibre to make a range of items, such as baskets, mats, bags, and even clothing. This eco-friendly craft promotes sustainability by utilizing renewable and biodegradable materials.
